A lot of people think that buying a new home means building a new home from scratch. While that is one of the options, there are two other options for home buyers looking to buy new.

The three types of new homes are: move-in ready, under construction and to-be-built.

1. Move-in Ready

Of all the options, buying a move-in ready home is probably the simplest and quickest way to purchase a new home for sale in your area.

A move-in ready home is one that has completed construction. Depending on the type of loan you choose, you can be in your home within 30-45 days or as little as 2-3 weeks for cash buyers.

2. Under Construction

For many homebuyers, the most difficult part of building a new home is waiting.

New homes under construction offer buyers the opportunity to shorten the wait, by choosing a home already in progress you'll save at least 2 months in the overall process.

3. To-Be-Built

To-be-built homes are your build from scratch option. When you choose to build a new home, you not only pick your community, lot, and floor plan, but you also choose all of the color selections and personalization options & features.

How long does it takes to build a new home? On average, it takes about 7 to 9 months, but varies quite a bit based on the size of the home, the time of year, and inclement weather delays (rain).

Once you've signed the contract for a to-be-built home it typically takes 30-45 days before the construction process can begin.

Start Your Search to find the perfect community by using the filters to find the one in the city, school district or price range you're looking for.
